Being a Change Agent

Image Consulting – Being a Change Agent, held on 23rd February 2015 was the first IMPA event for members. Non-members were allowed too. We had 40 attendees including speakers and office bearers.

The day started with a brief introduction of IMPA and the CSR work done so far by Taraa.

The first speaker was Suunil Kini whose topic dealt with transitioning from a corporate job into self-employment. Suunil, through his firm Image Gurukul specializes in corporate training. He was extremely engaging and explained the logic and process behind his shift from serious finance into image consulting. He also shared valuable tips about generating enquiries, being patient, being visible and going back to the books regularly in order to be successful.

The next speaker was Bharati Patel, who is a specialist in individual consulting. She shared stories from her journey, how she was asked to take a small workshop even before she was certified, how the first client approached her after the workshop and has been on retainer ever since, the work she does for weddings, etc. She shared that money isn’t the most important factor in being successful and also emphasized the importance of being professionally dressed and well groomed at all times.

The third speaker for the day was Jasmine Pereira. Jasmine shared insights on Using Social Media to Market One’s Business.

She mentioned that are various platforms available for sharing information and marketing one’s business like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, Vimeo, Blogger, etc. Each platform serves a different purpose and each one has its advantages and limitations. It is possible to link our accounts across platforms. However, the way information is shared on each platform is different and hence, we need to be careful what information is being posted where. It is very important to keep our personal and professional lives distinct. The rule to be followed is the same as in face-to-face communication – One should not post anything online, which they would not say, offline. The purpose of social media is to generate interest and awareness about oneself and one’s work. However, it should be used judiciously for marketing and advertising and we should not go overboard and share everything online

Jasmine’s session was followed by a Master Class with Vimal Gudka, which started with Hair Styling.

She showed different appliances and products that are used for the hair and explained their correct use.

She then demonstrated 3 professional hairstyles:

  • Mid-Neck Hair Length in a pinned back style with hair completely off the face
  • Medium Length Hair in a French roll
  • Long Hair in a low bun

She shared tips and tricks to handle oily, frizzy and flyaway hair and also demonstrated how a day look hairstyle can be converted to an evening look hairstyle.

Post lunch, the Master Class continued and the topic this time was Make Up

It started with different make up products, their uses and her preferred brands in each category.

She then went on to demonstrate the day look and shared insights on how we can use a product for multiple purposes.

The session also demonstrated the correct use of the bronzer, contouring, highlighting, converting day look to evening look, correcting application mistakes and cleaning and caring for our brushes.

There were a lot of questions from the attendees for all speakers, which clarified any questions they had regarding their respective topics.

With the immense positive feedback received for conducting the workshop, IMPA plans on conducting more of such workshops over regular intervals.
