Field trip to Pochampally Handloom Park Ltd

Trip to pochampally was a fun-learning event for everyone who attended. The team reached the Handloom Park and coordinated with our tour guide. He took us around each and every process
that involves in the making of “Pochampally Ikat textiles”
A characteristic of Ikat textiles is an apparent “blurriness” to the design. The blurriness is the result of the extreme difficulty the weaver has lined up. We started with the differentiation of warp and weft yarns!
– Learned the processes of warping and wefting
– Marking the design on the yarns with fountain pen and tying with rubber
– About VAT and reactive dyes and how to differentiate between them
– Dyeing process – with first (lightest) colour and continuing with other colours
– The ties (rubber) are removed revealing the design and texture created through the process
– Learned about the parts of handloom and how it is used
– Weaving process
The amount of harwork seen in making these textiles as beautiful as they look is tremendously appreciable. After learning the process, we had a picnic set-up lunch which was like a great team building time. Followed by shopping, which was refreshing as well as a learning as to where we can suggest our potential clients to shop from if they were looking for the traditional Telangana handloom.
